Events from January to December 2024

JANUARY 2024 –Through the Era’s Month

We’ll be travelling through time from the 1920’s to present day looking at the fashion, the architecture, history, art and music. From the great Gatsby to the Summer of Love we’ll be reminiscing shared stories throughout focussing on discussion and nostalgia.

10th – Church Visit at 2.30pm

12th – 1920’s party day

24th – Cooking Club at 1.15pm (Pineapple Upside Down cake)

29th – SU meeting at 1.15pm followed by Kiddley Divy

FEBRUARY 2024 –  Space Exploration Month

We’ll be soaring into space this month learning about new discoveries, space travel and learning about our universe. We’ll be making our own planets, rockets and learning about the cosmos!

2nd – Alex Southgate Musical performance

7th – Church Visit at 2.30pm

13th – A presentation on Space with STEM at 10am

14th – Cooking club at 1.15pm (Valentines Day Cookies)

20th – PAT Dog visit at 2pm

28th – SU meeting at 1.15pm

29th – Armchair travel day to New Orleans

MARCH 2024 – Gardening Month

The residents will be looking at things related to gardening and nature. They will also be planting their sunflower seeds for the annual sunflower growing competition.

4th – Libby’s Musical Moments set at 10.30am

6th– Church visit at 2.30pm

7th – World Book Day with themed activities and crafts

8th – International Women’s Day

10th – Mother’s Day

12th – Cooking club at 1.15pm (Cheesecake)

21st – PAT dog visit at 2.30pm

25th – Kiddley Divey at 1.45pm

27th – World Theatre Day with themed activities followed by SU meeting at 1.15pm

28th – Armchair travel day to Las Vegas

29th – Easter Egg decorating at 10am followed by an Easter Egg hunt at 2pm

APRIL 2024 – Easter Month

The residents will be exploring all things relating to Easter and taking part in a fun Easter Egg hunt around the home. Arts and craft activities will be themed on Easter.

4th – Chiropodist visit

10th – Church Visit at 2.30pm

12th –  Wild West Theme Day

15th – World Art Day with themed craft sessions

16th – Cooking club at 1.15pm (Pizzas) followed by PAT Dog visit at 2.30pm

19th – Carly Rae singing performance at 2pm

22nd – Earth Day with themed activities

23rd – St Georges Day with themed crafts

26th  – Armchair travel to Croatia

29th – SU Meeting at 1.15pm

30th – National Tie Dye Day with themed crafts

MAY 2024 – Ocean Discovery Month

Did you know only 5% of the ocean has been explored? We’ll be discovering what is currently going on in the ocean for example the big ocean clean up, new species being discovered as well as lost treasures found embedded at the bottom of the ocean throughout time. We’ll be focussing on different marine life, plants and colours found in the ocean through arts and crafts, discussion and discovery.

JUNE 2024 – Zoo Month

We all have memories of visiting the zoo- we’ll be reminiscing our own experiences and looking at what animals are in our local zoo and where they came from.

10th – 14th – National Carers Week with themed crafts

11th – Kew Pigs visit at 2pm

JULY 2024 – Fitness & Exercise Month

There are so many different ways to keep fit- from exercise bingo to dancing and more. We’ll be exploring the importance of moving our bodies and finding different and fun ways to keep fitness interesting throughout the month. Let’s get moving!

AUGUST 2024– Around the World Month

We’ll be travelling around the globe looking at different cultures and traditions, learning about the world around us. We’ll be eating foods from around the world and discovering the different clothing, food and history that makes the world so beautifully diverse.

SEPTEMBER 2024 – Games & Toys Month

We all have specific games we remember playing either as children or with our own children. We’ll be reminiscing different games and toys throughout our lifetime sharing stories and seeing how games and toys have changed. We’ll also be playing various board games all together ensuring we have fun along the way.

OCTOBER 2024  – All Things Autumn Month

NOVEMBER 2024 – Artists Month

This month we’ll be focussing on art history discovering what artists are currently on the scene and famous pieces documented throughout time. From Van Gogh to Banksy we’ll be looking at how these pieces have left their mark on the artistic world through our own exploration with painting and craft. We’ll be experimenting with clay, pencils and paint using artists work as our source of inspiration.

DECEMBER 2024 – Christmas Month

The residents will be looking at festive traditions from around the world and celebrating Christmas at Aveley Lodge with Christmas themed crafts, carol singing and xmas card writing.

The residents will explore the world of Pets. We will be looking at the different types of pets, reflecting upon pets we used to have as both children and adults and we will have some special visits from our fury and feathered friends.

FEBRUARY 2023 – Jungle Month

The residents will be involved in activities relating to the Jungle. Entertainment and arts and crafts will be themed on exploration, the sights and sounds of the jungle and our own past experiences.

MARCH 2023 – Tv & Radio Month

The residents will be reminiscing about Tv programmes and radio shows from their youth as well as looking at the modern equivalents of today.

APRIL 2023 – All things Easter Month

The residents will be exploring all things relating to Easter and taking part in a fun Easter Egg hunt around the home. Arts and craft activities will be themed on Easter.

MAY 2023 – London Month

The residents will be involved in all things relating to London. We will look at the history of London, important landmarks based in London and the residents will talk about all the fun things they have done previously in London. Arts and crafts activities will be based upon the London theme.

6th – King Charles Coronation

7th – Afternoon Tea to celebrate the Kings Coronation

9th – Entertainment by a Pearly King & Queen to celebrate the Coronation

 JUNE 2023 – Family Month

This month’s focus is on the Family. Residents will discuss their own families from their past and present and activities will be based around this theme.

 JULY 2023 – Down on the Farm Month

This month we will look at all things relating to being on a Farm. Residents will draw upon their own experiences of what life is like on a farm and arts and crafts activities will be themed on this.

20th – Dance Performance at 3.45pm

31st – Beach Theme Day

AUGUST 2023– History Month

The residents will be involved in activities relating to the Roman era. We will look at how and where the Romans lived and their connections with Colchester. Arts and crafts will be themed around this.

9th – Church visit at 2.30pm

11th – Residents and Relatives Summer Tea Party between 3pm-5pm with entertainment by Rat Pack tribute artist at 3pm

18th – Theering Singers at 2.30pm

24th – chiropodist followed by SU meeting at 1.15pm

SEPTEMBER 2023 – Food & Drink Month

This month we will look at all things relating to Food and Drink. Residents will explore their favourite dishes and tipples and will get a chance to try some new flavours.

The residents will be reminiscing about the music styles from their youth as well as looking at the modern equivalents of today and different instruments used.

This month the residents will be looking at all things relating to colours. Arts and crafts activities will be based on the colour wheel and all the shades in between and how they make us feel.

7th – Fingringhoe Primary School Carol Concert

8th –  Xmas Jumper Day as well as Mini Christmas Party at 3pm with afternoon tea for Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 & 12 only.

12th – Mini Christmas Party at 3pm with afternoon tea for Rooms 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 & 28 only.

13th – Church Visit with Carol Service

15th – Mini Christmas Party at 3pm with afternoon tea for Rooms 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22 only.
