JANUARY – Winter Olympics Month

The residents will be taking part in Aveley Lodge’s first, very own, (adapted) Winter Olympics! As well as various activities throughout this month, we will have some food themed days based on countries from around the world that take part in the Winter Olympics.

 FEBRUARY 2021 – Love & Friendship Month

The residents will be exploring different relationships and friendships as well as gender equality and diversity. Arts and crafts will be based around valentine’s day and remembering their loved ones.

MARCH 2021 – Spring Month

The residents will take part in our very own Spring Watch and activities will based on birdwatching and butterfly identification whilst gardening club will be readying the garden for the coming year by building things such as bird boxes, tidying up our bug house etc.

12th – Performance by Rat Pack Tribute Artist at 1.30pm

14th – Mother’s Day

17th – St Patricks Day with a special Irish themed dinner

19th – Afternoon Tea (Spring Theme) served from 3.30pm onwards

APRIL 2021 – Great British Month

This month the residents will explore some of the major historical figures and events that have made Britain great! We will have several Easter themed activities including an Easter Egg hunt and some craft events for St Georges Day.

4th – Easter Sunday –  Afternoon Tea (Classic theme) served from 3.30pm onwards

9th – Aveley Lodge Resident’s Quiz Afternoon at 1.30pm

20th – Cockney Day with Pie and Mash themed lunch followed by Leanne from FREDS Performing Arts singing a selection of well-known cockney songs at 1.30pm

23rd – St Georges Day

 MAY 2021 – Dance Month

Residents will explore the different types of ballroom, Latin and modern dances as well as trying out some for themselves! We will be celebrating May Day with the annual crowning of our May King or Queen and making our very own May Pole. We will also be hosting our very own Aveley Lodge Tea Dance.

JUNE 2021 – Environmental Month

This month the focus of our activities with the residents will be on exploring nature both native and from around the world, our rainforests and various habitats as well as looking in depth at the Queens Commonwealth Canopy initiative.

JULY 2021 – The Arts Month

This month, our residents will have the opportunity to explore various genres from the wonderful world of the Arts with four different themed weeks.

Week Commencing 5th July: Dance & Musical’s week – The residents will be looking at things to do with well-known musicals including dances, songs and some reminiscence work.

10th July – Willy Wonka theme day and Film afternoon with popcorn and ice cream

Week Commencing 12th July: Classical Music week – The residents will be exploring the instruments that make up an orchestra and learning about well-known classical songs and pieces of music.

16th July Andre Rieu afternoon with a cheese and wine supper

17th Cooking Club making musical instrument biscuits.

18th – Last Night of the Proms theme day

Week Commencing 19th July: Disney & Fantasy Film week – The residents will enjoy a magical week of Disney and fantasy inspired fun.

24th – Aveley Lodge Annual Summer Party (details to be confirmed)

25th July -Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory theme day

Week Commencing 26th July: Theatrical Week – The residents will have the opportunity to enjoy activities related to theatre and acting.

26th – Sing along day to various well known theatrical performances.

31st –  A very special outdoor performance by The Aveley Lodge Amateur Dramatics Club of “Miss Marbles And The Case Of The Missing Marbles”.

 AUGUST – Culinary Month

This month the residents will explore various culinary delights from those we know so well to the weird and wonderful, with an opportunity to try out brand new tastes and flavours.

1st – Jenny Sheldon conducting a presentation on Bizarre Foods from Around the World at 2pm

2nd – Cooking club will be making marzipan insects.

9th – Jenny Sheldon conducting a presentation on Foods from the Sea at 2pm

10th – Seafood Platter afternoon. A chance for the residents to explore and try different foods from the seas.

26th – Vegetarian food theme day

3rd – World Wildlife Day (charity event) This years theme is “Sustaining all life on earth”. Wildlife themed arts and crafts and visit from Kimmy’s Zoo at 1.30pm.

4th – Derek Coe conducting a presentation on “Life as a Station Master” at 1.30pm

5th –World Book Day (reminiscence work) followed by Phil’s Eats n Treats Club (Chocolate cereal bars)

11th – American Country and Western Day. Themed food will be served from 12.30pm onwards. Please wear jeans and/or western style clothing.

16th – Sharon Mooney, official tour guide of Colchester, conducting a presentation on “The History of Colchester” at 1.30pm

6th – An amazing live flying display from the Eden Birds of Prey team at 1.30pm followed by an up close and personal session where you can have photos with the birds.

8th – V.E. DAY 75th Anniversary celebrations with Aveley Lodge’s own Street Party with a traditional English Afternoon tea served from 3pm onwards. Nostalgic entertainment by Tanya Honey at 1.30pm.

The residents will be looking at festive traditions from around the world and making festive themed items as well as celebrating Christmas at Aveley Lodge.

3rd – Mercury Theatre’s special Christmas Concert for Care Homes at 11am

18th – Aveley Lodge Christmas Party – (for the residents only). A fun filled day packed with music, merriment, and festivities. The Aveley Lodge choir will be singing well known Christmas Carols and songs and we will be playing various board games and well-known family games such as Charades. All of this will be topped off with a wonderful festive feast!

13th – Visit from Rowhedge Pre-school children (Art and colouring) followed by a performance by The Aveley Lodge Amateur Dramatics Group of “The Jungle Book” to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

16th – Father’s Day (themed arts and crafts)

21st – Church visit at 10.30am followed by Wildscience Pet Therapy visit from 2pm

26th – Derek Coe conducting a presentation and talk on Teaching and School Life from the past at 1.30pm

27th – Visit from Rowhedge Pre-school children (Magic Table)

13th – Street Orchestra Live from 2.30pm – An orchestra of over 40 players playing popular and classical music in Aveley’s garden

17th – Jenny conducting a presentation and demonstration on Flower Arranging at 1.30pm

14th – Aveley Lodge Christmas Party 2-4pm with a festive themed afternoon tea served from 3.30pm. We will have carol singing from Aveley Lodge’s very own choir, various stalls selling last minute Christmas goodies throughout the afternoon and our popular Christmas hamper raffle.

16th – Fingringhoe Primary School visiting to sing Christmas carols at 1.30pm
