Aveley Lodge has worked with a company called Exploring Educational Opportunities (EEO) in Colchester for assistance with one of their educational courses they run in conjunction with Refugee Action – Colchester. EEO run courses to help refugees based in Colchester, find local employment by escorting them to various work place settings to see for themselves what work they may be interested in undertaking in the future and to start that first all important step in finding a job. Aveley Lodge hosted occasional visits to our premises from such refugees whilst under constant supervision by a member of EEO staff.

If you are still not sure if we are the right company for you, why not take a look at the following staff testimonials:

“After three years I still love working at Aveley Lodge Care Home. This is a “Home” for everyone, it is by no ways institutionalised or regimented. In a previous care role, I was told you had to be proud of where you worked, proud enough to place your own family in here and I certainly do feel like this about Aveley Lodge. I’d have no hesitations in placing any of my own loved ones here. I love how the management are related, the family influence shines through and I relish that as staff, we are also part of this one, big family!”.

E. Cotterill (Administrator)

“I have been working at Aveley Lodge for over two and half years now and I still love working here. It’s such a lovely place to work and we get lots of support. As an individual carer I feel I can go and use my own initiative and work independently as I have been instilled with the knowledge and confidence I need and the encouragement to do so. This is my first experience of working in a care home having previously worked in a non- care related role and I still love it. I feel very much part of a team and there are plenty of opportunities to advance yourself. The residents are so lovely, and the team as a whole are fantastic, we are one big family!”.

T. Brown (Care Assistant)

“As a member of the catering team, I have to say, Aveley Lodge is a fantastic place to work. In my previous line of work, I was lucky enough to visit many care homes and none compare to Aveley Lodge, it is an outstanding home. I’m always bowled over by the vast and varied activities offered here for the residents and how everyone is included whether you are a resident or a member of staff. As a member of staff, I feel valued, listened to and I’m very well looked after. I feel supported and have lots of training opportunities. The staff team are great, there’s lots of banter and everyone gets on”.

P. Newton (Chef)

“I have been here for 5 years now and I think the main reason I have stayed so long is because Aveley is such a nice place to work. The Home itself is always clean and tidy which makes for a good working environment. It’s a family run business which I think makes such a difference. I have felt very much supported from the day I started here. I have dyslexia but this has not been a barrier at all and management have been so supportive of me with this. The training we as staff are offered here is fantastic, it’s so varied and in-depth. I know I can ask at any time if I want any further training in more specialist areas. We all have regular supervisions with management which are always positive and meaningful. I feel we get to have our say and if we do encounter any problems, they are dealt with in a professional manner”.

J. Rickett (Administrator & Senior Care Assistant)

“I really enjoy working here at Aveley Lodge. As part of the catering team here, I get free reign of the menus in the kitchen, coming up with new ideas for the residents which is one of the best parts of the job for me. It allows me the flexibility to be creative and try out modern dishes. I enjoy every minute of working here, I have never had any problems and the Home couldn’t be any better. I have been here 3 and half years now and I love working with the residents. Some time ago, I started up the regular in-house cooking club and it gives me a chance to get out the kitchen and interact on a more personal level with the residents. We are a good team here and I do like the Staff Team building days, they are such fun!”

J. Sheldon (Chef)

“I have worked at Aveley Lodge for 18 years. I have worked as a domestic then as a chef before going back to the domestic work when I wanted to work part time several years ago. I do like working here. I enjoy my work and those I work with. I love the building and I’m always being complemented on how nice, clean, tidy and smell free the Home is which I feel very proud of.  The home is well run and as an employee, I feel very supported and looked after”.

A. Buckland (Domestic)

“I have been working at Aveley Lodge for over 18 months now and I love it! It’s like working within the residents own home. It’s so clean, there are no unpleasant smells and it’s like no other care home I know of. I feel so supported here by my fellow work colleagues and by the management and there is so much training on offer. You certainly feel valued and included and get to have your say on important matters. Working here has definitely brought out a different side of me…fun-loving and I have gained more confidence. Even my own family have seen this change in me. It’s such a happy place to work and there are good vibes from the moment you walk in. I’m so happy to be working here! ”.

K. Warne (Care Assistant)

“Aveley is a happy, buzzing place to work. We as a team work very well together. You certainly have to be very well organised though! However, there’s lots of training on offer to help us and we all have a laugh together while working. We all support each other and we love it here just as much as the residents do!”

K. Osbourne (Care Assistant)
