Our home is filled with many of life’s simple luxuries such as comfortable armchairs, a cup of tea in a cosy bed and beautifully maintained gardens.

Reception

Our reception area has been designed to be welcoming, bright and spacious. Our staff are always keen to help with any requests from our residents or their visitors.

Activities Area

Our main activities area is used for arts, craft, baking and more. However, our dedicated Activities team move around the home and use the whole space depending on what activity is planned for the day. Many mornings begin with an exercise class. Whatever your hobbies and interests are, there is always something for everyone, every day.

Dementia Areas

Here at Aveley Lodge, we offer support for those living with memory loss. Our various dementia areas are placed around the Home with activities panels to engage those that wander and invoking previous memories. They are designed to support residents living with dementia, offering an inspiring yet safe environment to explore these panels.

Quiet Lounge

This is a wonderful little area in the centre of the Home for those residents wishing to catch up with friends or relax in peace. Drinks, games, newspapers and other diversions are also available.

Main Lounge

This is the largest of our lounges and overlooks our wonderful Mediterranean courtyard. Residents can choose to sit and relax watching TV, socialise with friends or to take part in any activities that are going on. With double patio doors out to the sunny enclosed courtyard area itself, residents can also choose to enjoy the fresh air and peace outside, perhaps watching our resident sparrows and bluetits which nest in the courtyard every Spring.

Hair Salon & Nail Bar

Providing hairdressing services, relaxation therapies and styling from the comfort of our home, our Hair Salon and Nail Bar are the perfect place to relax and unwind. We have a resident hairstylist, who is available twice a week to all residents. You are also more than welcome to invite your own personal hairdresser or wellbeing therapist to visit if you wish. We have a wonderful array of nail varnishes to choose from as we also provide beauty treatments such as manicures, pedicures and hand massages.

Cinema & Library Lounge

The cinema lounge is a lovely option for residents who want to relax and enjoy a great film. With popcorn and refreshments available, residents can enjoy a scheduled screening or request their own film by browsing our vast collection of DVDs. We also show the big sporting events such as Wimbledon, the Olympics and the FA Cup being among the residents’ favourites. Some residents even celebrate their birthdays by using this room on a private basis. This space also doubles up as our library with smart and relaxing surroundings for our residents to read a newspaper or novel. We have a lovely range of books available, and residents can relax and enjoy a coffee or tea whilst reading. With patio doors out to our rear landscaped garden and its stunning views of the countryside, this lounge is a great place to watch wildlife and is very popular amongst all our residents.

Relatives Room

At Aveley Lodge Care Home, we don’t just cater for our residents either. Families and friends are warmly welcomed to Aveley Lodge. We consider visiting an essential way of ensuring that our residents get to stay in touch with loved ones. Our Relatives Room therefore is a perfect, relaxing space for all visitors to enjoy. Tea and Coffee making facilities are available 24/7 along with freshly baked home-made goods by our very own Chefs every day to help make your visit to us that extra bit special. With a comfy seating area available as well, it also acts as a quiet and reflective space for relatives needing some private time to themselves.

Dining Rooms

We offer a dining experience that enables residents to maintain their independence, dine with dignity and encourages social skills. While residents have the option to dine in their own room, we actively encourage residents to eat together in one of our two dining areas so they can make the most of this valuable social time. Our dining tables are always laid with full tablecloths, place mats, napkins, assortment of condiments and flowers to help enhance the dining experience while the food is served by our dedicated care team. We love it when friends and relatives join our residents for meals too and they are always welcome at our food taster days, themed events and afternoon teas or any function where residents and their families would like to celebrate together. One of our dining rooms also features a beautiful piano! Budding Beethoven’s can tinker away on the piano between meals or sit and listen to some classical music from the visiting pianists that visit our home as part of our activities calendar of events.

Landscaped Gardens & Grounds

We welcome all individuals to experience our peaceful yet stunning landscaped garden which hosts an abundance of wildlife and offers uninterrupted views across the Roman Valley onto Donyland Woods, a delight at any time of the year but especially so in the Summer months. Additionally, say hello each morning to the friendly heard of cows and sheep from the neighbouring farm who often like to see what we are up to!

We have a large koi fish pond, a Rose Memorial Garden, as well as our own Jubilee Tree planted especially to mark the Queens Platinum Jubilee and our very own contribution to the international Queens Green Canopy initiative in 2022. Our rear garden is also used for our annual garden party and large Summer events such as our delightful Summer BBQ’s and outdoor amateur dramatic performances. It has even held a 50-piece orchestra in the past!

We have created a fabulous outdoor environment which can be accessed and enjoyed by all, the perfect place for socialising and walking whilst enjoying the birdsong. Throughout our rear garden and courtyard areas, we have carefully selected sensory plants that engage one’s senses of sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. The variety of colours and textures not only creates a visually appealing space but also supports mental well-being, crucial for residents, including those living with dementia.

The Local Area

The name Fingringhoe means “hill-spur of the Fingringas”, a tribal name denoting the “people who dwell on the finger of land”.  Rich in history and natural beauty, during the 1st Century AD, the village of Fingringhoe was home to a river port which serviced the nearby provincial capital of Roman Britain at Camulodunum (modern Colchester).  Fingringhoe is locally known for its salt marshes, which provide habitats for many birds and salt-water animals. These form part of the Fingringhoe Wick Nature Reserve managed by Essex Wildlife Trust, which is well worth a visit and is only two and half miles away from Aveley Lodge Care Home. Two prominent features in the centre of the village are, St Andrew’s Church, who’s north wall dates back to the 12th century, as well as the famous Oak Tree which is reputedly the largest Oak in Essex and believed to have grown from an acorn placed in a pirate’s mouth when he was buried after being executed. The centre of the village is just over half a mile away from Aveley Lodge and is classified as a conservation area, featuring a traditional village pond and red telephone box as well as the delightful Whalebone Public house which overlooks these features and who’s history stretches back to around 1735.
